Feder at Sellars Project Space Denver

Opening Reception for the artist will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 6 - 10 p.m. Exhibition continues through October 31, 2009.

Sharon Feder's life-long commitment to painting is intense and unrelenting. Her journey in painting has taken her from formal roots into the land of the abstract, to landscape, and back through portraiture and structural still life. Approaching painting as both an emotional communication with the observer and as technical challenge, Feder breaks rules and tests assumptions while exploring the communication that exists between shadow, reflection, and atmosphere.

Feder’s new exhibition, Convergence, is a continuation of her exploration of the River North Series. These new paintings take on a semi-abstraction of architectural forms while maintaining the integrity of the previous imagery. In these new works her approach of combining imagery (extreme close-ups, distant images, silhouettes, etc.) in multiple paintings (diptychs, triptychs, etc.) create a dialogue that offers an even more descriptive sense of place. At the same time, questions of identity are given a complex representation in both time and place.

    Feder Selected for Ransom

Sharon Feder was recently selected to participate in the Art for Ransom event in Denver, Colorado.

Arts Street has been master minding an awesome, unique fundraiser for the past year, and is almost ready to kidnap art and deliver the ransom note. Art for Ransom, on Sept. 12, will be a collaborative show, event, and fundraiser benefiting Arts Street and RedLine. The event will be held at RedLine from 6-10 p.m. and will be part happening, part exhibit, part installation and a big party.

During the Art for Ransom event, art will be virtually kidnapped and held for ransom and as donations come in, the art will gradually be revealed. To draw attention to the event, some public art around the city will … ummmm …. we don’t want to be indelicate … get a bag over it’s head.

Art for Ransom was an idea developed at the student design competition put on by the Art Directors Club of Denver in the fall of 2008. About 100 student graphic designers teamed with professional art directors and brainstormed ways to market Arts-Street – with the added caveat that the budget was next to nothing. The winning team came up with the idea of Art for Ransom. ‘Where would we be without art?’ the team asked. ‘If art was suddenly kidnapped, would we get a sense of its value?’ and would donors – big and small – pay to get it back?
